There are a lot of great snippets of children's literature online for free from best selling authors.  These are great to use in the classroom.  These excerpts from best selling children's books are great to use in the classroom because they can be read in one or two periods and they can help you target specific topics in the classroom.  They are also great ways to get kids checking the library to read more.

Here is a pdf version of James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl.  I love this book.  I've paid for a class set of James and the Giant Peach for my classroom.  I am not sure if this is copyrighted or not, but I think teachers can still use excerpts from books.  I'm not sure how long and excerpt or if that is actually true.  I love these pictures, instead of the ones from the Quentin Blake illustrated version.

FREE Reading for Kids

If you are looking for a great reading activity for kids, MIT has developed an amazing game that is quick and fun reading.  It helps kids analyze what they are reading and has a special focus on fact and opinion.  It is a great fact/opinion activity that gets students talking about what they are reading and it can be done all online.  It works on both PCs and iPADS.  It is a great interactive reading activity.

Great Book on its way

The House of It draft is being worked on an I will be posting it as soon as it is done.  I did a practice reading of the books with my son (he's in the early stages of reading) and their are some parts that need to be tweaked for effectiveness.  Get ready is going to be a FREE online book for kids.

With the all the information that is out there.  It is hard to find good things for kids to read.  I had an APP on my iPAD today and my son was playing it.  It was supposed to be a reading game, but he wasn't reading he was just clicking on things until it moved him onto the next scree.  Don't waste time with online books that have no value.  The House of IT is written with beginning readers in mind.  It is a great read aloud for dads.  Get ready for this FREE Online book for kids.  It is sure to be a hit.
